Debbie's words from Round One at Lightwater.
Full detailed results on both TPoT and Woking AC sites.
Our first match was at Lightwater Country Park – a beautiful place. We were lucky the weather was not as hot as the previous weekend but the course was not an atypical cross country course. It is mostly gravel and, due to lack of much rain recently, even the wooded section was dry.
Eight seniors joined forces on the start line. Those who didn’t make it included Nicky A with a broken wrist after being knocked off her pedal bike, Gaby Miles with a twisted ankle, Johanna Gibbons with a poorly daughter, Rachel Brookes expecting a baby in January and Avelline Deighton transporting her boys to a ski competition.
First home on the 6.4k, 3-lap race for K&P in Div 2 was a very fit Liz Richardson 36th (28:59) followed very closely by Debbie Raymond 37th (29:05). Natalie Sacre 47th (30:19) was next and is really looking forward to the rest of the season, with Nicki Murphy 50th (30:29) close behind and then Max Lavin in her debut race completed the 5-lady team in 61st (31:23). Backing the team up Rosaline Darby 71st (32:22), a poorly Suzanne 94th (34:39) and Caroline Jeffcote in her first ever cross country race 115th (37:26). There were 137 athletes in Division 2 of a total field of 299. K&P team finished comfortably in 8th position of 19 and a fantastic effort by all 8 with the help of Max’s dad, Humphrey and Peter Waddington – thank you!
Just one u15 Bridget Langford 19th (18:45) and in the u17s race just Layla and Mae Thompson 2nd (16:35) and 3rd (16:52) respectively in the combined u15/u17 4.1k race. Sadly there were no u13s.
Next race 3rd December in Richmond Park. Would be great to have at least 1 or 2 more athletes in both the u15 and u17races.
